Yesterday i received my provisional driving licence.. me and my husband were both happy. He decided to put me in his car insurance so i will be able to drive his car with him. Last night we were talking about it and thinking possible places that i can drive without other cars coming in.
Then my husband just called me and told me that i'm not allowed to drive his car even i have my prov licence or even if i'll have my full licence in a year. Because his car is a sporty car :doh
The insurance won't accept me :bigcry: Mind them, i'm a better driver than them i'm pretty sure

Know what...driving is good. It gives you some sort of freedom.
Perhaps you can get some sort of second hand really cost effective small car? Anyways...hope you get to drive the soonest -- safely! :)

Iin my experienced, I hold under 1 yr full driving licence and my husband upgrade his car to a new-ish Audi unfortunately, his insurance for almost 5 yrs(Direct Line) didn't want me to insure because its 'too nice for me to drive' so what my husband did was left the Direct Line paid £60+ becuase he was in contract and found a new insurance who can insure me to his car which is ASDA.
It's sad but nothing we can do.
Goodluck to you Adam&Chryss

My advice to you is to pass your theory test first before learning to drive, the certificate is valid up to 2 yrs, you'll have plenty time for your driving lessons.
This is what I Did! because the theory test fee, driving lessons fees, utility bills etc are too expensive and also less stress if you focus in one thing first if you do it step by step! Remember you still have kids, husband and house and work to look after when you study your driving.
I passed both theory and driving test first time as I took plenty time to study and concentrate one-by-one. I was ups downs situation but enjoyable and less stress!

Yeap, just keep reading and learning and reading and learning.. Only yourself can tell if you're confident to take your test or not.
A lots of free videos and websites to read about theory test, just bare in your mind the hazard perception is a bit tricky so give yourself of extra time learning it.

For me is not really good idea to learn driving then stop then go back learn driving again, dont leave gap in between of your driving lessons, as you have chance to forget what you learned, it willl only cost you more money and time!
I did 2hrs per week starting late May 2008 then passed my driving test Middle of Sept 2008 so I did in total of 31 hrs of driving lessons, I also spread the cost of my driving so it doesnt hurt in my pocket:D

get yourself a small secondhand car like a 1 litre and insure in your hubbys name and add your name too it!
btw i think its best you get some lessons first without your hubby there!
i took my wife to a quiet road to try my car for the first time as she can already drive...well lets put it like this,i think a few refresher lessons are needed!!!

Insurance companies ALWAYS find a way to charge you more. When I split with my ex, I had her taken off the insurance and my premiums went UP, as they allegedly give a discount for married coupkles which is then removed cos I was single!!
I'm the same driver, with the same car and shoudl have th same risk, but they still put my premiums UP.:furious3:

I think that's expected, if she is driving in the philippines which is left hand drive while it's the opposite here in uk,
so she needs to re-adjust what she's been used to, not to mention getting on the right side of the road, lol
and also driving here should be quicker and faster as there's no traffic, lol,
manila is a traffic zone, so you get used to a more slow-pace driving there....
unlike here, you don't see any heavy traffic on main roads....well atleast from where i live, lol, not sure about the others......

Regarding the Insurance
Thats what many people with their children or new drivers do but just be aware i belive that can void the insurance.
Ie saying in the Hubby or parents name but really the first driver is a newly qualfied person.
They may never found out but if the insurance company find out you use that car everyday taking it to work or college etc.
Its just the usual heads up and thousands of couples and families im sure do it and never have any problems.

Anyway, me mam works for NFU insurance and they covered us both for an increase of just £60 for the year. Also the excess is less too.

We're in a similar position. My wife just received her provisional licence but I've got a company car and she's not allowed to drive it as a learner. She'll be OK once she's passed her though.
She'll need her own car but getting insurance could be expensive. I've always had a company car, so haven't built up any no claims bonus in my own name. As a new driver, her premium is likely to be high.
We'll probably get a small, cheap car and insure it third party only. Hopefully, after a year or so, the insurance companies will look at our situation and give us a good deal!

As far as being a sporty car goes, its only a Mondeo ST TDCI !
Just called Tescos insurance and it turns out that cos they refused to cover Chryss on my policy they have to waive the cancellation charge which was 1 months premium + £10 :xxgrinning--00xx3:
And I also get £8 refund from my last payment, so its not all bad.

I think some insurance companies will give you some NCD even though you`ve been driving a company car if you can prove that you havn`t had any accidents during that time.
Maybe someone has experienced this and can help you?

When I first arranged the insurance for my wife's car a couple a years back I didn't find much difference in the prices between third party and full comp. I did though find a massive difference in prices between different companies. Some insurance companies were quoting over £1000 and others wouldn't even insure her because of the type of car (it was deemed too 'boy/girl racerish') though in the end I only paid ~£350.

thanks for that info :xxgrinning--00xx3:.. i will never answer my cp when driving specially when our 2 kids are with me. i can't risk their lives just for a phone call :NoNo:
CP in the car? 1) you are breaking the law if you are using 2) it is really dangerous 3) even ringing of the CP can distract you from driving pretty much
So in my opinion it is better to switch it off completely when driving...:xxgrinning--00xx3:

Yesterday i received my provisional driving licence.. me and my husband were both happy. He decided to put me in his car insurance so i will be able to drive his car with him. Last night we were talking about it and thinking possible places that i can drive without other cars coming in.
Then my husband just called me and told me that i'm not allowed to drive his car even i have my prov licence or even if i'll have my full licence in a year. Because his car is a sporty car :doh
The insurance won't accept me :bigcry: Mind them, i'm a better driver than them i'm pretty sure
congrats Chryss!... wow a sporty car:D... what amazes me is the wind screen wiper, it is automatic it detects the water and doesn't need the buttons to press on.:D:xxgrinning--00xx3:I thought there was a ghost!:Erm::D:icon_lol:

I guess he loves me more than his car, hahaha!
Well, I started my first lesson with him last night :doh
Though he was calm.. I was really nervous knowing he's the one teaching me. Now I can relate with other wives when they complained about their hubby's teaching them how to drive. The more you want not to have mistakes the more you'll have it :NoNo:
I already know how to drive back in the PI. And yesterday we nearly had an accident :NoNo: It was my fault, I was really nervous and didn't concentrate much :doh

You'll find you are not allowed to drive any insurance high class vehicles such as 4x4's, sports cars, etc. Obvious reason for this, and the main reason you only see driving instructors using cheap small cars.
You can however drive it on private land. So we'll expect to see you driving up & down on runway R24 at Heathrow :cwm24:
