Labour MP Eric Joyce has been arrested on suspicion of assault after an alleged fight at a bar at the House of Commons, according to Sky News sources.

Sky's home affairs correspondent Mark White said police were called following an alleged disturbance at Strangers Bar in the Commons.

"The events as I understand it happened just after 11pm on Wednesday evening involving a number of people in this bar.

"Another MP, Stuart Andrew, Conservative MP for Pudsey, apparently has alleged he was assualted by Eric Joyce, that he may have been headbutted and punched by the Falkirk MP.

"He says he is planning to press charges."

Scotland Yard confirmed officers detained a man in his 50s. He is currently being held in custody at a central London police station.

Another result of binge drinking due to cheap alcohol prices:D. Not really, Ded, alcohol is expensive in bars. Have a look at my thread in the Health section. This is what I have said :- " An increase in consumption by young people – “ pre-loaded “ by drinking alcohol from the supermarket at home before going out to carry on binge–drinking - is one aspect of the problem.
The other is middle class adults drinking at home, 2/5 drinking above recommended limits at least once a week. A similar number of men and women have an alcohol problem. Every week pubs are closing, booze is bought by the middle classes for consumption at home, and they’re in denial about the risks. Hazardous consumption ( more than 8 units on one occasion ) is one of them."
No one denies there can be a problem with drunken behaviour in bars, but they are a controlled environment, not the prime reason for Britain's booze culture with its health and social consequences.

Hi Doc - yes I read through your other thread earlier, very interesting.

I'll see if that Alistair Campbell programme is on iPlayer - I suspect there's many in the House of Commons would like to give him a clump whether they were boozed up or not

Hmm....only 32 years younger you say ? :Erm:

Anyway, allegedly a certain Mr. Pickles was able to contain both protagonists by parking one under each bum cheek until the law arrived.:)
