Another favourite song of ours is Amanda McBroom's song 'The Rose' - sung by Bette Middler in the film of the same name, it has been recorded by many other artists (including, quite recently, Westlife). The story of the film bears more than a passing resemblance to the life of Janis Joplin, who died in a hotel room of a drug/alcohol overdose.
However, one reason that the song is so popular with us is that the Reading Male Voice Choir, of which I used to be a member, sings it regularly.

Hey, were you in FMVC when we came up a few years ago - was it 2005?? We performed together at Annfield Plain.
I seem to remember that there had been a recent change of MD (or was it the last concert with the old MD???) ... and the female accompanist created a welcome diversion. Many of us suggested that we could exchange Clive Waterman for the Felling accompanist!

No. I have not sang with FMVC since 1984, formed NMC in 84 as secretary with the conductor of FMVC and a small group of others that left with him due to a disagreement with the then committee aaaahhhhh never mind.
Sang and served as secretary with NMC until 1996 when increasing business travel commitments meant I could not attend regular rehearsals.

Ah, okay. I only joined RMVC in 1998, and left in 2007 (it would be a long commute from Tagum).
Yes, I have heard that FMVC has had differences of opinion over the years - but then it's been in existence longer than RMVC. Reading (at a little over 30 years old) still has its original MD, and founder, (Gwyn Arch), and its original accompanist.
