I think in many countries, including UK, that for reveal years the custom on entry can take criminal action against people who are in possession of fake good, also of course stolen or otherwise illegal goods in UK. I was concerned when I brought in a dozen or so fake DVD's last year .
Although they may just confiscate the goods, under UK they can seize any illegal article plus the thing in which it is being carried, the suitcase or even the car. I know this to be true. I was a police officer in UK and an American guy who had more cigars be had legal bought in the PX on his base more than he was allowed to take off the base, lost his expensive set of cases. I felt pretty mean as it was me who had arrested hem.
Half the illegal stuff in the UK get's produced right here! No need to import it, we're exporting it!! I know a lot of clothing companies in and around Cheatham Hill in Manchester make a fine wedge of cash from the usual fakes.

Don't worry too much about what's going on in italy and France. Just do not pass through their airports. Here in the UK its a crime to SELL fakes, but the buyer has not legal exposure..
