when is the right time to apply for ilr and what are the documents needed to do so ..i am on a spouse visa with one dependent child age 6 years old. arrived here on UK August 20, 2009.its the date stamp on my passport any advise please

the earliest you can apply for ilr is when you've been in the uk 2yrs - (upto 28 days)
so if you arrived on 20th 8 2009 + 2yrs is 20th 8 2011
20th 8 2011 - 28 days is 23 07 2011.
so earliest you can apply is 23 july 2011 and the latest is a few days b4 your visa expires ( i take it your visa is valid for 27 months ?)

you need to have passed the life in uk test,

thou there could be changes that will effect you in July next year. so check the UKBA website before you apply to see what the changes are ..

Handy there should happen to be a thread on ILR, Joe ... 'cos Myrna & I have just been discussing hers.

Her *Spouse Visa was granted on 23/02/09 ... she arrived in Manchester on 08/03/09 ... and *it is valid untl 23/05/11

So ... based on your answer to Kalabasa's question ... does it mean that Myrna can apply anytime from 26/01/11? [i.e. 28 days short of the 2yrs from which her visa was APPROVED] Or will she need to wait until 08/02/11? (which will be 2 yrs from her ARRIVAL in the UK less 28 days)

And I realise she will NEED to have applied - at the LATEST - "a few days" BEFORE her visa expires on May 23 ... when the 27 months are used up. But how MANY [days] would that BE?

if she arrived in the great city of Manchester on the 8th of march 2009, the earliest she can apply for ILR is when she has been in the UK 2yrs - (upto 28 days)

so 8th march 2009 + 2yrs is 8th March 2011
8th March 2011 - (upto 28days) is 8th feb 2011

in fact she could apply on the day her visa expires (23/05/11) but i would always apply for a visa ASAP, because if there are any problems (with payment being refused by your bank, etc) it gives you time to sort them out, instead of leaving it til the last minute

so she could apply btw 8 feb 2011 and upto around 19th of may 2011 ( as the 23rd is a Monday)

Hi to everyone , Im back been a long time im not posting here but im visiting this site everyday. Got my ILR August 16 this year .. My spouse visa was issued august 8,2008 and arrived here september 13 ..My visa expired August 8 called the home office when is the best time to post my application home office said 1st week of august . sent it by post august 2 and got a confirmation letter after 7 dys .. I didnt expect i will get my ILR in less than 2 weeks .. what happened was my husband needed his passport back .. so he called the home office August 17 if its possible to get his back.a woman from home office said he can get it back because he is not the applicant ,said to him will send it back in 10 dys . but after 3 dys he called the home office we got a parcel from home office .. i was so nervous opening the big envelope ..all my documents was there and my passport with ILR stamp.and i checked the date on the stamp date is august 16 one day before my husband called .now no more worries

big congratulation to you ..may i ask what are the documents you submitted aside from letters address to you both .have u take the test in life in the uk test? as ive know u have to take it before applyint ILR? but correct me if i am wrong.

yes, you have to take the Life in the UK Test prior to your ILR application.. it's one of the requirements.

... well, obviously a good, basic command of English helps. But from this - and several other of your posts - YOUR own fluency seems to be perfectly adequate for the purpose.

I would suggest you obtain a copy of the official Home Office publication 'Life in the UK' 2007 (2nd Edition) and thoroughly from cover to cover; also buy yourself the companion booklet containing practice test questions and answers. Good Luck!

yes took examination 2 weeks before i applied.i submitted my 3mos payslips ,my husband payslips, certification of employment,P60s ,marriage contract because i applied on my maiden name.letters from the bank, tax credit office and hospital.. thats all...
