    i day seminar

I just spent 2 days in Phils collecting my local CNI and going through the pains on the "one day" marriage seminar in Pangasinan.

The seminar (if you could call it that) was broken into 3 two hour meetings. the first one I really cant remember its purpose as all i was given was a questionaire to complete. it was about my beliefs, how would i expect the relationship to be and finally about sexual topics. It was meant to be 2 hours and lasted 15 mnutes.

Part two got a little better, a lady spoke in Tagalog mostly to ourselves and 2 other couples. Her first part was about the girl being the person who runs the home and the guy being the provider. This part didnt last more than 15 mins as she said its ok to my fiance, hes white so hes rich lol im still laughing now. in total for the first 2 semnars which should have lasted 4 hours we had been in there 30 mins max.

    Part 3 - Family Planning

this seminar was conducted by the "population manager"

First statement from her was to me, "Mr..... you dont look arab, but your living in Saudi Arabia?? i see you are divorced. i hope you are aware we dont have divorce in philippines, i hope you know this girl well enough and have spent enough time with her" wow.. didnt i feel welcome. I had to respond, "yes mrs... i am aware, however you do have annulment, so people live in sin instead once they break up, in addition many people have familes out of wedlock.. in addition, i have visited Phils almost every month for 2 years.

Ok so she relaxed a little now,,,, until..... "ok you have 10 days to change your mind now while we wait the licence, in that time you should plan your future children, they should be between 3-5 years apart, mr ... how many would you like as i see you already have one with your Ex WIFE" she was really flirting with me now, not!!!! Again I responded, "yes Mrs,, and my daughter is doing very well thanks very much, she has a quality life and sees her dad often. Are you not a population control manager? in that case why are you not giving better advice on children? "

the next 20 mins went pretty well, at the end i stayed to speak to her and pointed out to make judgement son people she does not know is pure ignorance. she promptly said sorry.

My reason for writing this is not to comment on the individuals, but what is really the point in making a 39 year old guy travel across the world and sit listening to 3 incredibly poor so called seminars that lasted no more than 1 hour combined just to ensure a signature on a piece of paper. Crazy

how many guys didn't attend the seminar ? I didn't
I thought if both of you are over 30 (or over 25 with parental consent ) then the seminar is legally not required.

well thats what i always thought, my fiance is over 25, but i had to do it, also i did try offering to pay to avoid it but that didnt work either. I think each municipality has its own way, who knows, its done now but a long way to go for a seminar

    That's why tomboo
Like joebloggs said, I also thought if over 25/30 you were exempt
Carina and I were already married (UK) when we had a special wedding day in Phils.
Still we were obliged to attend!!!
Then this lady informed me that we were already married, and did I know that if we went ahead there was no divorce as in America!!
But... no choice sometimes if you need to get that all important piece of paper with that all important signature.

Keep smiling tomboo, just another funny memory in life.

Neither the Wife or I attended a seminar I believe and vaguely recall we had a survey to fill in which I did on the trip before getting married. Unforunatley its up to each area it seems regarding seminars and as its kind of linked in with morals and the right way etc.. Im sure some areas will insist on in phill however much u ask not to do, while others will not be so worried and can be infulenced to give u a bye.

From the Cvill Wedding where the Judge had a quick chat with myself and the Wife and got the approval of the wifes parents as she was under 25 although the wifes dad turned up a little bit late due to misplacing his shoes so the Wifes Lolo had to almost stand in, but luckily the Wifes LOLO and LOLA were "connected" so things like this were ignored
I think the chat was basically our senimar but as the judge could see the Marks n spencers bags he and the Mayor were to get, so it passed quite quickly and was basically a quick lecture on doing the right thing sermon style which i barely took in just smiled and nodded alot.

All i would recommend is you go into one of this situations where you are to be lectured in a relaxed and calm attitude as you can. Just look over at your mahal and see what they do. Ie smile nod and look subservient. Your be out the room and most likely never meet the person again.
Oh lord why did you make so many clothes and shoe shops

I was 66, (having been married for almost 25 years with two adult children and 4 grand children and had been divorced about 20 years. My wife was 34 and had never been married, no children when we married)

We both had to do the seminar which was in Tagalog. I understood some of it as of course there were the occasional words in English and I speak Spanish and many Tagalog words are the same.

All in all it was a waste of time for me.

Having said that there was probably a quite a lot of good advice for younger people and a similar type of seminar would be a sensible thing to have in UK and elsewhere. After all we have to llearn how to drive, speak another language, how to use a computer etc so why not about marriage and caring fore children ?

When having a church wedding in the UK, the local vicar usually likes to hold a meeting beforehand and will often lecture on the sanctities of marriage, family values, life etc. When my ex husband and I visited our local vicar, the Reverend’s dog sat on my ex’s feet. He felt too embarrassed to kick the dog off and his feet went to sleep. The dog was elderly and had a very bad problem with wind ....... we left in a hurry in search of a gas mask!

Anyway, a few years later our baby son was christened in the church by the same vicar. Our son smiled sweetly and then passed wind on him very loudly. I didn’t know where to put my face but my ex husband was delighted that he had finally got even!

i think it's the city hall's rule, sis. even if you are to marry in the church, you will still need that license and the seminars before they give you that paper to sign during the church wedding too. i did all the paper works for my sister and her dutch boyfriend's (hubby now) papers just before they went home to the PH for the big wedding. they got here a month before the wedding to complete all their seminars.

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

Whatever is meant to be will always find its way.

We didn't have to attend it, luckily.
I remember a member here attended the family planning seminar, with their small child in tow.

In Cainta to be able to apply for the marriage licence at the town hall it was a requirement that we produced the seminar certificate, along with the other papers, CNI, birth certs etc

Incidentally. Its not a family planning seminar, but a marriage seminar. It may include some aspects of family planning but that would be a minor part of it.
