    New job

Well folks, after a very busy few weeks I now find myself with a spare 5 minutes on my hands to log in and tell you all whats been going on in my life. As some of you may remember I was on a heavy lift / pipelay vessel that is in Rejekia in Croatia undergoing a full conversion to pipelay spread. This is expected to take until June next year. Anyway I wasn't keen on spending all that time on my own on nightshift until then, especailly over the xmas period (I was due back to work on the 15th December).

Anyway I've got my self a new job working on a drilling ship offshore Mozambique. I've been here a week and got 3 to go so hopefully I'll be walking in my front door on the morning of the 23rd December, which will be nice. Its a pretty good set up here and we're well protected from pirates (not that they venture this far south.....yet). We have several nice armed gentlemen onboard and a small floatilla of armed vessel that also carry an few chaps with guns as well, so we'll have now bother fending off a few pirates in a skiff.

Anyway I just thought I'd let you all know what I've been up to, but i'd better go and look interested in whats going on.

    Enjoy yourself mate.

Wouldn't have minded being there myself.

All Somalia needs is wiping off the face of the earth.

With all those guns and the location it's almost looking like a computer game scenario.

I was unlucky enough to have a 3 month stint in Mozambique. Plenty for me thank you.
I did some work for all three railway authorities (CFM Norte, CFM Centro, CFM Sul)
If you ever get a chance to take a visit to the Maputo Railway Station then do it. It's just a totally awsome building.

Thanks everyone. That is a very nice building Terpe, you certainly get about don't you. My actual time shore side in Mozambique is very limited. We get a charter flight from Jo'berg into Mocimboa Da Praia, which from what I've seen is a small town / large village with a crappy airstrip next to it. We land, get our bags and then walk 50 yards to a secure camp for the helicopter offshore.

Probably the only drilling "vessel" I have never worked on. A drill ship. Spent most of my working life on semi-submersibles which are a lot more stable in rougher weather......

DPO....Dynamic Positioning Operator / Officer? I worked in the service sector (service hand). I teach now - mainly to do with the act of drilling the well.

A lot of my offshore life has been in the North Sea, not the most interesting of places, but did spend a year offshore on a semisub in Angola - one of the three legged variety. Much of the rest of the time has been spent onshore in quite a variety of countries.

I did wonder that with a name like Subseastu that you may have been a Subsea Engineer (BOPs and all that).

If you don't mind me asking, why are they using a drillship and not a semi sub? Is it because you are in a remote setting and a long way from your supply base?

Quite a nice feeling, leaving a rig (drillship) on 23rd December but not so good for the man (your back to back) who has to work both xmas and new year.............

Hey Stu, great news. Guessing is 4:4 work? At least you get some decent weather as well.
Just make sure those flight tickets are booked for the 23rd!

@ Terpe, wow what a building!

I picked the name subseastu due to a lack of imagination and working for subsea7 at the time!

I think the only reason its a drill ship and not a semi is Dolphin has drill ships (though this is their only DP capable one) and they won the contract. She does operate all over the world having spent time recently in india and the states.

Nothing can bring the 23rd forwards fast enough at the moment, but I am worried in case my man does a no show but I'm sure it'll be ok. It'll even out anyway as I'm due to work next xmas and new year so it all comes out in the wash.

My relief is a mate of one of the guys on here already from what I hear so if he does a no show it'll reflect badly on his mate on here. So hopefully it'll all be ok. You're right about SS7, they are part of the mighty Haliburton, I think they just changed they trading nome so not to appear to evil!!
