Ah. My wife was talking about Pandesal, longingly, the other day.....I recall googling it (them). She started by talking about flavoured bread and I sort of said, what do you mean, as in chocolate bread or strawberry bread? And she ended up talking about Pandesal.

I mentioned Pancake Day and Shrove Tuesday to her and she seems to know of it but never really celebrated it.

    Not really
But Ash Wednesday is quite a big deal in the Philippines where people go to church and get their foreheads marked with ash

Ah. I think the pancakes interest me more but then maybe I am drifting away from the true meaning of it all...

Phil pancakes are US style, not the traditional UK ones which have more flavour

    How can you have 40 days & 40 nights? That's 80 days

We would normally say simply 40 days. If one goes for a 10 day holiday the nights are included, we dont say we went for 10 days and 10 nights....yes a bit long winded.

I have to confess I like the American way of eating pancakes and amongst others enjoy them with butter and maple syrup.

No . In fact, I have never been "ashed" as such as I was always in school during Ash Wednesday.

I totally mucked it up this year! No pancakes!

Even when I was a grotty student, I used to make sure that we had pancakes on pancake day. It's the law! But with my wife on a night shift and me late home from work, I didn't get chance to cook them.

I guess we'll have them at the weekend, but it won't be quite the same....
