"no pressure from the party leadership" - indeed there probably won't be, because Filipino political parties, with the exceptions of the New People's Army and the Aby Sayyaf, who are not in Congress, are utterly weak - the parties don't control funding, so they don't control anything else! There's nothing like the whip system in the UK.

We can however rely on the CBCP to exert the maximum possible pressure.

The really sickening thing is that the CBCP are trying to be more "Catholic than the Pope" mainly in order to get promotion within the Church whilst a conservatiev Pope is on the throne of Saint Peter.

I think you mentioned that before. But it definitely helps one get ones head around whats driving these almost whacky clergy.

BTW I was pleased to see that it looks like progress is being made.
