This is what happens when services are accessed randomly on multiple occasions by the various utilities, digging up and back-filling over and over, (causing inconvenience to everybody, and making a horrible mess of roads and pavements) instead of coordinating the works... plus more are using mini-diggers, rather than (more sensitive) hand tools.

Some local authorities insist upon this now, fortunately.

Points taken, Graham; y'know what, though : Having checked - and rechecked - for ANY wires that might've come loose from their respective sockets - and finding NONE, I began to suspect that the cause lay elsewhere ... as, in fact, proved to be the case, on further investigation!
