Dom most people have to apply for their own NI, im led to belive.

I asked a person who worked in HR at a big uni and she said for certain professions they can apply on behalf of visting lecturers and the like but for everyday admin staff for example they have to apply themselves.
Some big employers like the NHS can apply on behalf of workers.
She actual rang up a contact at the local job centre for the latest info on my behalf. This was a year or so, so may have changed yet again just to confuse us all
