dedworth, 3 of those do important jobs,
i'd guess you haven't got kids or you teach them your self
what do you think a doctor should be paid, have you any idea how long it takes for someone to become a consultant ? tell me whats the max and minimum number of years it takes and the cost
and as for the police, risking their lives and dealing withall day, how much would you want to be paid before you did that job

Good evening Joe
I was a Primary School LEA Governor for 5 years, sons been through nursery, infant, junior & now at comprehensive so I'm not wet behind the ears about teachers and what a selfish peculiar breed many are. A good mate is a senior lab tech at a large comprehensive and he keeps me up to speed on the bizarre money wasting goings on.
Another friend and his wife are Doctors they are very comfortably off and unlike your man in Tameside (see Health Tourism thread) just get on with their jobs. I've never discussed money with them nor Health Politics .
There are a lot of excellent Police Officers but I also agree with Jack Straw who said a number prefered to sit around in a “warm police station” rather than going out on the streets to fight crime. I don't need to go into detail about the Back Office I'm Alright Jack three Police Federation representatives in the news this week over the plebgate thing
I'm jumping in here
Teachers have one of the cushiest jobs around,One of my friends is one and she admits it,good pay,12 weeks holiday etc,etc
moving on to the police-many are good cops but there are an ever growing number who can't be arsed-an ex police inspector told me he was glad to retire,I asked why he said the buggers don't want to get their hands dirty,I said what do you mean and he replied that often when call came in the cops would bicker about who's turn it was and 'I've just got myself a coffee now!'
Plus their morale is low-what's the piont in catching some low-life as the lefty judges won't convict them![]()
morning dedworth, well seeing you never talk to them , l'll give you an idea ..
5yrs at med school
2yrs foundation (fy1 ans fy2)
then the shortest path to getting on the specialist register is
GP 3yrs training
longest
surgery etc 7yrs of training
so the shortest time it takes to earn £67,000 is 10yrs of endless studying, exams and fee's -
the longest 14 long years, oh and it doesnt work out like that, your be lucky to find a ST post every year to carry on training
so the youngest someone could be a GP is 28, that takes a lot of sacrifice and commitment, like teachers its not just a 9 to 5 job![]()
dedworth, you must have been to A&E, I'm not talking about for a few stitches, but where the doctor tells you to come into a room, then tells you your relative has got little chance of pulling thru, you think your up to doing that? I've been there twice, i don't care what they earn, no one can say they don't earn their wage unlike many people
well cameron's bullingdon mates got a 10% tax cut, so who's belt are we talking about![]()
My mates school foolishly took on a 25 year old as Head of Chemistry starting this term on £50k plus 12 weeks holiday - 6 weeks on she's been found to be incapable of teaching A Level Chemistry. Can't sack her though so she's "teaching" BTEC Science - nice work if you can get it![]()
Police salaries HAVE reduced this year and now start at a paltry £19k a year. Like Joe says, is this really a fair sum to be paid for the type of work they have to do? I think not. They also have to contribute 10% of their salary into their pension fund. Furthermore, the pay of many teachers has also been frozen.
We are ALL feeling the pinch, in one way or another.
